Nueva Ecija`s pioneering seed producer conferred CLSU’s "Gintong Butil" Award

SCIENCE CITY OF MUNOZ, Nueva Ecija, Feb. 8 - A seed producer, whose company produced certified in-bred and hybrid rice seeds which helped thousands of farmers and rice producers in the country, has been conferred the prestigious “Gintong Butil” (Golden Grain) Award by the Central Luzon State University Alumni Association Inc. (CLSUAAI).

Engr. Ricardo Magdangal, proprietor of the Tilah Seed Center (TSC) based in Barangay Maligaya here, was handed the award in ceremonies Saturday at the CLSU Ampitheater during the alumni homecoming and general assembly meeting of the CLSUAAI.

The award was bestowed on him by Dr. Romeo Cabanilla, CLSUAAI president and board chairman, CLSU president Dr. Ruben Sevilleja and CLSU Alumni Foundation Inc. president and board chairman Dr. Eliseo Ruiz.

Magdangal was cited in recognition of his "excellence in the practice of his profession, community service and exemplary accomplishments in business."

He was also a recipient of the Most Outstanding Certified Seed Producer and Exemplary Businessman of the Year and Excellence in Public Service Award given by the Leadership Organization of the Philippines Inc. at the Manila Hotel on Feb. 15, 2009.

The TSC is committed to the production and distribution of rice seeds all over the country.

Aside from Magdangal, other "Gintong Butil" awardees were Prof. Juanito Campos (community and public service), Dr. Emilio Cruz (research and development), retired Army Col. Artemio Jose (public service and administration), Dr. Federico Perez and Dr. Fe Porciuncula (professional achievement) and Dr. Gilbert Sigua (science and technology). (PNA)
