CLSU recognized CHED`s Best HEI Research Program

Central Luzon State University, through the Freshwater Aquaculture Center (FAC) and College of Fisheries (CF), proved once again its dynamic leadership in research and development when it bagged the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Best Higher Education Institution (HEI) Research Program (national level).

CLSU President Ruben C. Sevilleja received the trophy and the symbolic check of the P1M cash prize the university is set to received, during the awarding ceremony held at Innotech, Commonweath Avenue, Quezon City last December 17.

The research entry to the said competition is entitled “Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries Research and Development Program for Quality Life”. It was presented by Dr. Tereso A. Abella, director of CLSU-FAC and program leader of the research program. The paper first won for CLSU the regional Best HEI Program.

According to Dr. Abella, out of the 80 research program entries from different state universities and private institutions, CLSU made it to the short list of five finalists. The other finalists were UP Diliman, UP Los Baños (UPLB), Visayas State University (VSU) and Benguet State University (BSU).

The 15–minute presentation of Dr. Tereso Abella of the winning research entry held at CHED National Office last Decmber 11 was made before distinguished researchers from UPLB, UP Diliman, VSU, BSU, CHED, PCARRD and Department of Science and Technology, including Dr. Padolina former DOST Secretary.

He also highlighted the major accomplishments of the projects under the program, to wit: Tilapia Genetics under the leadership of Dr. Emmanuel M. Vera Cruz; Cost Containment Options headed by Dr. Remedios B. Bolivar; and Fish Health Management Practices led by Dr. Apolinario V. Yambot. The research team also included Dr. Fermina T. Rivera as its social scientist.
