Dr. Gundran is 2008 National Outstanding Veterinarian in the Academe

Dr. Romeo S. Gundran, dean of the College of Veterinary Science and Medicine (CVSM), was hailed 2008 Outstanding Veterinary Practitioner in the Academe by the Veterinary Practitioners Association of the Philippines (VPAP) during the 36th VPAP Annual Convention and Scientific Conference held at the Hotel Renaissance, Makati City on June 12-13, 2008.
With this feat, the College has now produced VPAP national awardees for three consecutive years. Dr. Jesus S. dela Rosa and Dr. Gemerlyn G. Garcia were given the same awards in 2006 and 2007, respectively.
The award is annually given by VPAP to honor outstanding veterinary practitioners in their respective fields of discipline. The VPAP Awards Committee chooses the most outstanding practitioner from nominees nationwide based on the participation in professional, civic and social activities, and on the professionalism of the nominees.
Aside from serving as the dean of CVSM, Dr. Gundran has provided significant contributions in the accomplishment of some special tasks at the Bureau of Animal Industry. He has been providing his technical expertise as an epidemiologist in the academe to the Bureau for the last five years. He was a member of the team tasked to do risk assessment both in India and Brazil in September 2003 and April 2008, respectively.
Dr. Gundran participated in various national roundtable discussions including that of the Assessment of the National Rabies Prevention and Control Program in 2005. He was a member of the Joint Evaluation Mission Team (FAO/AUSAid/Philippines) which conducted an Evaluation of the FMD Eradication Program in the country in 2005. He also served as lecturer in the Applied Veterinary Epidemiology Training Program organized by the Bureau and supported by the FAO and the Japan Special trust Fund Programme participated in by selected provincial veterinarians in the country in 2006-2007.
