CLSU is new member of Philippine Fisheries Institutions Network

The Central Luzon State University is new member of the Philippine Fisheries Institutions Network, Inc. (PhilFin), a non-stock, non-profit organization composed of institutions engaged in fisheries education and research.

According to Dr. Arsenia G. Cagauan, (UAHS '73, BSA '78) dean, College of Fisheries, CLSU has earned its membership through the College of Fisheries being a designated Center of Excellence by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED), which has contributed significantly to the country's fisheries education and research in partnership with the Freshwater Aquaculture Center.

PhilFin aims to assist the government the rational management and conservation as well as utilization of fisheries and aquatic resources. It is also aimed at promoting excellence and providing leadership in fisheries education and training, research and extension and production programs. PhilFin also helps formulate and recommend policies in fisheries education and training, research and extension and production programs.

The founding members of PhilFin are the eight recipient-institutions of the 6th World Bank (WB) Loan Education Project, which saw the formation of the association as a means of sustaining the WB project. The principal office of the association is located at the UP Visayas at Miagao, Iloilo.

During the PhilFin July meeting, the presidents of the member-universities were there including President Rodolfo C. Undan together with Dr. Arsenia G. Cagauan.

One of the PhilFin activities last year was a Resource Generation Forum where Dr. Onofre Ringor, (BSAEn '66, MS '87, PhD '91) VP for Business Affairs of CLSU shared to PhilFin members CLSU's programs, strategies and experiences on resource generation.
