Here is a man who does not wait for things to happen -- he helps make things happen.


Engr. Genaro M. Tolentino, President of the Central Luzon State University Alumni Association, Inc. and Chairman of the Board of Directors sees to it that issues pertaining to the alumni are jointly discussed and solved with the members of the BOD. He regularly meets the BOD every Thursday from six to eight in the evening. On top of this, he regularly meets the BOD every last Saturday of the month. One major issue discussed is the role of CLSUAAI in the CLSU centennial celebration.


Truly, this young and energetic alumni president together with the BOD members, are facing challenges on how to make the grand celebration worth remembering. With his experiences at the association, Tolentino is confident that he can serve well the CLSUAAI by implementing its programs and projects as targetted.

As soon as he assumed the presidency of CLSUAAI and with the guidance of the association's Vision and Mission, Tolentino crafted the following programs and projects for his term:

Gene, as his peers and friends call him, has been with the association as BOD member and has held various positions since 1994 up to the time he was elected president of the association in February 2006. As CLSUAAI president, he is one of the members of the Board of Regents of the University and an Ex-Oficio member of the CLSU Alumni Foundation, Inc.


As to his educational background, the young boy graduated in San Mateo, Isabela as salutatorian and valedictorian in the elementary and high school respectively. He finished his BS Agricultural Engineering degree in 1983, and MS Agricultural Engineering major in Crop Processing in 1997, both at CLSU. He received a diploma in R&D Management at the University of the Philippines Open University, Los Baņos, Laguna in 2001.


The 45- year old agricultural engineer has several eligibilities to his credit.


He works at the Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension based at the CLSU compound. He is the Division Chief of the Evaluation and Management Services Division, Planning and Evaluation Department since 1998.

He also works closely with different committees at BPRE and other agencies. He is the Regional Management Information System Coordinator of the Central Luzon Agricultural Resources and Research Development Consortium (CLARRDEC) since 2002.


Gene has participated in various local and international workshops, conferences, trainings and seminars. The latest of which was the training in Consortium Management Operation and the International Seminar Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights in Agriculture. The latter training was held in Pakistan.


Because of his good performance at BPRE, he was awarded Natatanging Kawani (Junior Executive) in 2004, Most Outstanding Employee for Planning and Support Services in 1995 and the Kilos-Agad Award- Planning and Evaluation Department in 1994. He was also a recipient of the William D. Dar Best R & D Management Paper Award given by the Philippine Association of Research Managers (PhilARM) in 2004.


Tolentino is not only successful in his career. He is also an ideal husband to the former Virginia Aganon, a CLSU Alumna (BSAExEd '82; MPS RD `05) and teacher, Precious Child Montessori. Gene is also a loving father to his children, Charis Mae, BSAgEcon student at UPLB; Josiah, forth year high school student and Hannah Mae, a grade schooler.
