GRAND CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF CLSU, A SUCCESS

Celebrating the 100 years of excellent service and leadership in agricultural education and countryside development, the week-long celebration of the Central Luzon State University's 100 years last April 7-12, 2007 was indeed a success.

The CLSU's colorful and once in a lifetime history was well attended by CLSU officials, faculty and staff members, students, local and international alumni, government officials, heads and officials of universities and institutions, and CLSU's benefactors and stakeholders.

In a message of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (PGMA) read by Chairman Carlito S. Puno of the Commission on Higher Education during the grand centennial celebration last April 12 at the CLSU Auditorium, PGMA applauded CLSU for being a center of excellence in the field of agriculture and for its continuous effort of producing high caliber graduates who excel in their field of specialization.

According to Dr. Rodolfo C. Undan, CLSU centennial president, the 177 distinguished men and women who were given awards and citations during the convocation is in recognition for their contributions, support and honor they have generously given and brought to the university or for the significant roles they have played in the various stages of the university's history.

Moreover, CLSU also recognized the Most Distinguished Alumni in the fields of education, business entrepreneurship, arts, communications and media, business entrepreneurship, public service, science and technology, community development arts and communication and environmental advocacy.

The Golden Grain award, the highest given by the university was given to former CLSU presidents, Dr. Amado C. Campos, Dr. Eliseo L. Ruiz and Dr. Fortunato A. Battad. Dr. Undan, and Nueva Ecija Gov. Tomas N. Joson III also received the award.

Before the convocation, a 7.5-meter centennial landmark was unveiled in front of the administration building before the centennial convocation. Among those who witnessed the event were Governor Joson, Congressman Eleuterio R. Violago (2nd district, Nueva Ecija), Science City of Muņoz Mayor Nestor L. Alvarez, and National Historical Institute Director Ambet Ocampo. Other activities highlighting the week-long celebration include the ribbon cutting and blessing of exhibits, blessing of buildings and landmarks, sports and cultural festival, science and technology forum, centennial graduation exercises, recognition program for service awardees and retirees, international conference, centennial night and grand alumni homecoming.
