Galinato Receives Engineering Awards

Gerry Galinato, a principal energy specialist with the office of Energy Resources, received the 2007 Engineer of the Year Award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers-Pacific Northwest Section during its annual meeting in Moscow on Sept. 14.

The award was presented to Gerry for his exemplary achievement and outstanding contribution in the development of renewable energy resources and the promotion of energy efficient technologies in the agricultural sector in Idaho.

"I am really honored and humbled to receive the award from ASABE recognizing my contribution in the field of agricultural engineering, specifically in the development of renewable energy resources in Idaho," Gerry says. "Of course, my professional accomplishments in this field would have not been possible without the help and contributions of my co-workers and colleagues.

"I hope that with our new organization, the Office of the Energy Resources, we can continue our efforts in the development and utilization of renewable energy resources in our state."

In addition to receiving the award, Gerry was also elected as the new chair of the PNW Section of ASABE for 2007-2008 and concurrently the Program Chair of the 2008 Annual Meeting, which will be held in Boise next September.

This is the second award that Gerry received this year. In April, Gerry was honored and featured in the centennial book "CLSU Heroes of the Century." The book recognizes the contributions of selected alumni achievers who have made significant contributions for the fame and glory of the Central Luzon State University, Philippines. The special book was published commemorating the 100th year anniversary of CLSU in April 2007.

Gerry has worked with IDWR for 33 years, eight years with water resource development programs and 25 years with energy conservation and renewable resources development programs.

He is a registered professional engineer and received his bachelor's degree from the Central Luzon State University and master's degree at the University of Idaho, Moscow. Both degrees are in agricultural engineering.
