Pres. Undan reaps honors as AIT Prominent Lecturer and AITAA Distinguished Alumni

The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) is indeed very proud of the latest achievements of its very own alumnus, Dr. Rodolfo C. Undan (HS '57;BSAEN `62), a professor and current president of the Central Luzon State University.

As a prominent alumnus of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Pres. Undan delivered the second lecture under the ''AIT Prominent Alumni Lecture Series'' at AIT, Bangkok, Thailand on May 20, 2005. The lecture series is designed to provide recognition to AIT alumni who have distinguished themselves and their alma mater through lifetime achievement and professional accomplishments. It also serves as a platform through which AIT can partner the alumni in activities that would be of great interest and benefit to the members of the AIT community, particularly the student body.

Pres. Undan lectured on the topic ''Irrigation Water Management for Sustained Agricultural Productivity in Asia'' to a big crowd composed of professors, scientists, researchers, alumni and students of the AIT. The lecture which was broadcast in a live INTERNET was followed by an insightful open forum and concluded with a reception in honor of Pres. Undan.

True to form, another laurel was bestowed upon Pres. Undan as the 2004 AIT Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni for academic/research and excellence. The award was given in recognition of his service to the region through outstanding professional and technical achievements on environment, engineering, management and development; and in appreciation for his significant contribution to the AIT and the AIT Alumni Association.

Apart from being a two term CLSU president, Dr. Undan had held high level positions in the Philippines serving as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and concurrently OIC-Director of the DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research. He also had a productive stint as Administrator of the National Irrigation Administration. Pres. Undan was a recipient of an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Agricultural Engineering awarded by Her Royal Highness Princess Professor Dr. Chulabhorn Valailakh during the Royal Commencement Exercises of Maejo University in Chiangmai, Thailand in 2003.

Pres. Undan also garnered 24 other awards/citations, among these were the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineering (PSAE) Most Outstanding Agricultural Engineer; Professional Regulation Commission, Philippine Federation of Professional Associations and the Philippine Association of Board Examiners (PRC-PFPA-PABE) Most Outstanding Professional in the field of Agricultural Engineering; National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Achievement Award in the field of Engineering; Nueva Ecija Provincial Government Natatanging Novo Ecijano'95 sa Larangan ng Agrikultura; AITAA-Philippines Outstanding AIT Alumnus (Academe Category); CLSUAAI Achievement Award in the field of Agricultural and Irrigation Engineering; and the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award presented during the 7th Congress of ASEAN Engineering Organization, Hanoi, Vietnam in 2000.

Truly, Pres, Undan has made a name for himself as a prominent academician, scientist and administrator and yet he remains to live in simplicity, honesty and humility- fine qualities which indeed are admirable and worth all the awards he had reaped so far.(flp'2005)
