(by RS Galang  7/28/2006)

A man's successful career can be measured by the endeavors he has passionately accomplished. This and much can best describe the practice of PhilSCAT Director Dr. Romeo B. Gavino as an agriculture engineer as he was chosen as 2006 Outstanding Professional in the field of Agricultural Engineering by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

In a flag raising ceremony, Dr. Gavino emotionally dedicated his award to his PhilSCAT family.

The "Outstanding Professional of the Year Award" is the highest award bestowed by the Commission upon a professional as recommended by his peers for having demonstrated exceptional professional competence and integrity in the practice of his profession.

As criteria for the award, Dr. Gavino showed in the documents he submitted to the PRC that he has participated meaningfully in professional activities through the professional organization, contributed significantly to the advancement of the profession and to the effective discharge of the profession's social responsibility through meaningful contribution and participation in socio-civic related activities.

Dr. Gavino will formally receive the award during the PRC Awards Night on June 22 at the Fiesta Pavilion, Manila Hotel in Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Dr. Gavino was also recipient of various other recognitions and awards in his field. The most recent was the "Most Outstanding Agriculture Engineer" (Maramba Award) as adjudged by the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers given to him last April 2005. This was in recognition for his outstanding performance and meritorious contribution in the advancement of the agriculture industry and the promotion of the agricultural engineering profession in the country.[RSGalang]
