Dela Cruz (BSA'79; MS'88) - recipient of the 2003 AFMA Best R and D Paper Award (Applied Research) for the paper entitled "Predicting Catchment Run-off and Soil Erosion Using Geographic Information System (GIS)- Assisted Soil Erosion Model" presented during the 15th National Research Symposium and 16th Bureau of Agricultural Research Anniversary held last October 8-9 at the Department of Agriculture, Diliman, Quezon City, and 2003 Best Scientific Poster entitled "Geographic Information System (GIS)- Assisted Soil Erosion Modeling for Sustainable Watershed Resources Management" presented during the 6th Annual Meeting and Symposium of the Philippine Society of Soil Science Technology, Inc. held last May 9 at Camarines Sur State Agricultural College (CSAC), Pili, Camarines Sur.

Gagelonia (BS Bio '01)- recipients of the 2003 Best Paper Award (Research Category) and PCARRD Best Paper Award (2nd runner-up) for the paper entitled "Controlled- Release Fertilizer for Lahar Affected Areas and Coarse Textured Agricultural Soils" presented during the 14th CLARRDEC Regional Symposium on R and D Highlights held last July 25 at the Philippine Carabao Center, Science City of Muņoz and 31st PCARRD Anniversary held last November 10 at Manila Hotel, respectively.

Pagaduan, Jr. (BSA ' '92)- recipients of the 2003 AFMA Best R and D Paper Award (Adoptive Research) for the paper entitled "Accelerating Peri-urban Vegetable Production in Luzon, Philippines" presented during the 15th National Research Symposium and 16th Bureau of Agricultural Research Anniversary held last October 8-9 at the Department of Agriculture, Diliman, Quezon City.

Edgar A. Orden (BSA '80) and Emilio M. Cruz (BSA'71; PhD '96)- recipients of the 2003 AFMA- DA Secretary Award (R and D Paper Published in an Institute of Scientific Information- Current Content Journal) for the paper entitled "Effects of Intraruminal Soluble Glass Bolus on Blood Selenium and Plasma Mineral Level of Grazing Does under Backyard Condition in Selected Areas in Nueva Ecija" presented during the 15th National Research Symposium and 16th Bureau of Agricultural Research Anniversary held last October 8-9 at the Department of Agriculture, Diliman, Quezon City.

Dr. Honorato L. Angeles (BSAEn '60) received the "Natatanging Nueva Ecijano sa Larangan ng Agham at Teknolohiya" from the Nueva Ecija provincial government last September 2, 2003 during the 107th Nueva Ecija Liberation Day celebration held at the Provincial Capitol, Palayan City.

Dr. Clarita P. Aganon (BSA '76) was chosen as one of the Outstanding Munozonian by the local government of Science City of Munoz specifically citing her as Outstanding Scientist/Researcher. She received the award last December 8, 2003 during the 3rd Charter Anniversary celebtation of the city.

Dr. Rodolfo C. Undan (HS '57; BSAEn '62) undertook a two month Fullbright- Philippine Agriculture Scholarship Program from September 23 to November 23, 2003 in the US. The theme of his research program was "Modern and Sustainable Technologies and Practices Applicable to the Philippine Setting". The two month program was spent in the University of California, Davis, CA and Ohio State University.

Dr. Mario S. Suba (BSAEd '78) pursued a three month study and research undertaking on Breeding and Genetics in Frankfurt, Germany from October - December 2003 under the auspices of the German Academic Exchange Service.

Engr. Chito F. Sace (BSAEn '83) flew to Australia on October 25, 2003 for a three week study tour in the Australia-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Business Fellowship. The fellowship aimed at providing opportunities of experiencing hands-on training in research and on-farm immersion program in a commercial hydroponics farm.

Dr. Carlos C. Abon, Jr. (BSA '77; MS '86; PhD '96) attended the Hunan International Rice Science and Technology Training Course in China last September 1 to November 16, 2003. Sponsored by the Yuan High-tech Agriculture Co. Ltd., the training focused on breeding of hybrid rice, seed production, F1 cultivation, harvest and grain processing.

Dr. Fe L. Porciuncula (BSA '81) participated in the training workshop on Methods and Approaches for Assessing the Impact of Technology Innovation in Crop-Animal Systems in Bangkok, Thailand from November 27 to December 2, 2003. The workshop is sponsored by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).

Dr. Teotimo M. Aganon (BSA '75) and Ms. Myrna A. Tenorio of UPLB presented a paper entitled "Agricultural Extension System in the Philippines" last December 15-20, 2003 at Faisal Abad, Pakistan during the seminar on Enhancement of Extension System in Agriculture sponsored by the Asian Productivity Organization (APO).
