Arroyo confers CLSU honorary doctorates on 3 business leaders

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo handed the honorary doctorate degrees conferred by Central Luzon State University (CLSU) on Ambassador Donald Dee, lawyer Miguel Varela and Francis Chua last September 2 at special convocation rites.

The three were honored for their exemplary contributions to the country's commerce and industry sectors.

Dee is a special envoy for international trade and negotiations and concurrent president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Varela, president of Manila Bulletin, is former president of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines.

Chua is the president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The President arrived at the special convocation held at the Philippine Carabao Training Center Hall at CLSU in the Science City of Muņoz from the ''Unang Sigaw ng Nueva Ecija'' commemorative program in Palayan City where she was the guest of honor.

She thanked the three business leaders for their continuing support of the economic and development agenda of her administration.

In their brief remarks, the three awardees reiterated their support for the government, the President's program to improve the lives of Filipinos and their confidence in her administration.

Among those who accompanied the President to CLSU were Presidential Chief of Staff Michael Defensor, Presidential Management Staff Secretary Arthur Yap, Commissioner on Higher Education Commissioner Carlito Puno and Gov. Tomas N. Joson III. ###
